Air Guitar World Championships are TODAY!

This is it, you guys - the big day has arrived and today (tonight, Finland time) the winner of the Air Guitar World Championships will be crowned. The event will be live-streamed, so if, like me, you aren't fortunate enough to be in Oulu today, you can still watch... right here. Action kicks off at 1:40pm Eastern time.

This year there are more Americans competing than ever before - a grand total of six, appropriately (because 6.0, get it? Get it, you guys?). We knew there would be at least two: the defending world champ, Mean Melin, and this year's US champ, Airistotle. But a cavalcade of other American hopefuls made the trip out to Oulu this year and entered themselves in the Dark Horse there (you can sign up for it, it's not an invitational), and all but one of them advanced to the World Championship! To wit, Melin and Airistotle will be joined onstage by MARTEEKA, Windhammer, Doug "The Thunder" Stroock, and G Tso Money (who is actually representing Taiwan, but we love him anyway). I'm super excited for all of them for different reasons - one of the reasons being that I guess I can stop bitching about Windhammer being robbed at every turn this year, since here he is on the world championship stage anyway. And Stroock could completely have won the US national title; not that Stot didn't deserve it, but they were both really, really good and were only separated by a tiny margin of score.

Also, follow US Air Guitar on Twitter (if you don't already) - if there are going to be up-to-the-minute updates, that's where they'll be!

See you in the livestream chatroom, my friends, and expect me to get all yakkety yak about it right here once the dust (and glitter, and clouds of sprayed beer) has cleared.

**unrelated side note: thank you, my dear friends, for making my post on women the most read post in the history of my blog; for sharing your thoughts and opinions, and for continuing the conversation elsewhere. If I had feelings instead of a shrivelled icy heart, I would be tearing up over here. Expect to see more on the subject once the World Championship recap post is up - not to belabor the point but to show the depth and breadth of experiences in this realm.
