2015 Air Guitar Season Update

Just a quick update of changes, goings-on, and things to expect coming up - it's a busy time for the 2015 air guitar season but, of course, also for "real life." Some things have fallen a bit behind and I just wanted to make sure you knew they were coming!

First off, there have been a handful of qualifiers I haven't written about yet, and I may wind up writing them out of order. The reason for this is the oldest one, the NYC Megaqualifier, is going to bring you an interview with a participant - something we've never done before! - and therefore it's taking a little more time. But I might skip ahead a bit and write about Columbus, Kansas City, and yesterday's Houston qualifier (and Portland is tonight!) anyway just so you don't get bored.

Second, the Boston qualifier - coming up a week from tomorrow! - has a big update in the world of judging. All 3 judges are now confirmed, and they are

  • Returning judge Allix Mortis, who totally nailed it last year, and I'm not just saying that because I made it to the second round
  • Comedian Jake McDowell
  • Host of the Old School Game Show (which is where that spectacular header photo was taken), Mike D'Angelo
So prepare yourself. You will be judged, and probably found wanting. Even if you aren't competing. Especially if you aren't competing. You miss 100% of the licks you don't attempt. Rectify the situation and sign the F up.
Thirdly, an announcement on my own part. I don't talk about myself much on here, and for good reason - I'm not that fascinating - but I am now going to be part of the USAG organization in an official way. I'll be the Ombudsman (Airbudsman?), and in that capacity, report on the workings of the organization and write posts there that touch on community issues and concerns. I'm excited about this new role, both for myself and because it's a good idea in general. I will still be posting here just as frequently (or infrequently... guilty), and I'll still indulge my own pet soapboxes here, but I'll try to give other people's soapboxes some attention there. Also, some articles you saw first here may have another run over there. Exciting times we live in.
So that's the quick rundown! Expect more meat in a day or two!
