Hey, Boston air guitarists! The Manhattan US Air Guitar Qualifier is coming up this Friday (no, the one that already happened was the Brooklyn one... completely different), and if you're able to make it down, you should go!
Here's why. First of all, it's so close, and buses are so cheap! And second, and most important, the New York qualifiers have historically been pretty tough, right? Lots of big names, the bar's set pretty high, and unless you're fairly confident in your abilities, it may be kind of daunting. But this year, that's not the case. Think about it.
- Airistotle, as defending US champion, doesn't have to compete until the national finals.
- Any local champions from last year get a pass to the semi-finals (in this case, it's the same guy, but that would take another person out of contention had it been someone else).
- Event organizers also get a pass to the semis, so as not to penalize someone who loves the sport enough to give up his or her chance to compete just so there can be a competition in his or her town. Naturally, the people who want to set up a competition tend to be pretty bigtime competitors themselves... and they're out.
- Anyone who has come in first or second in any qualifier is already all set and doesn't need to compete anymore - and some of these folks have competed and won or come in second in Brooklyn, or DC, or Boston...
- There are always going to be a couple of people who can't do it this year for one reason or another anyway.
With all of this taken into account, you're looking at what is basically a wide-open field! Not that nobody tough is going to show up, but it's anyone's game, so if you're on yours, or even if you're not and you just want another fair shot, here's your chance! I'd go, if I could sneak out of work a couple hours early (just started a new job, though, so that wouldn't be wise).
Can you make it down? It's at Pioneers Bar and as a competitor you'd want to get there by 7:30pm on Friday, June 21. Here's the link to sign up!
