LA held their US Air Guitar Qualifier the same night as Des Moines. There was, as I understand, less in the way of men exposing themselves, but they did keep alive the tradition of family rivalry. They also had a healthy number of competitors, which I like to see, and they rocked the famous Viper Room - which has a lit-up extension to the stage that apparently is great for powerslides. Let's talk about it!
- It's LA, so everyone was super ripped. Ok, perhaps I exaggerate. But I'm not exaggerating by a lot.
- Scores seemed largely good, with at least one 6.0 being given out in the first round (Satan's Only Bastard) and plenty of 5.9s and 5.8s.
- Young 'un Air-o-Dynamic took the stage here as well, and the other end of the spectrum was also covered, by the inspirational Smart Old Broad. Seriously, inspirational - have you read her story?
- The Plinko board of second-round songs may not have been used in San Diego this year, but it was in full effect in LA!
- GLITTER. Soulstice was coated in it, and, knowing the physics of glitter, everyone else probably was, soon, too.
Soulstice: not kidding about the glitter situation... or "glituation"

Ultimately, King Slayer crushed both her first and second rounds and ran away with the victory! Second place went to Soulstice, and third was badass Badfish Roller Derby skater Gwarana! Dear BDD, next year compete with us. I know a few of you had a good time at the Boston qualifier, and now you have someone to face off against both on the track AND onstage (well, she's in California, but you could win and wind up meeting her in the finals). DO IT.
And hey, would you like to see any individual performance? Now you can! Videos of every single competitor are up here. Sorry, no visible man bits this time!
