The season is over, the planes are flying home with tired, smelly, and extremely happy air guitarists on them, and that means it's time for a recap of the 2014 Air Guitar World Championships. Once again, I wasn't there; once again, I watched it live, as much as I could with the livestream dying on me constantly, and made do with recordings for the parts I missed. The dream came true, everybody. Kansas City hosted the 2014 US Air Guitar National Finals and the city went crazy for air guitar. And so did I, all over again. This is truly in large part because of the huge, supportive, involved air guitar community in the area, and specifically defending World Champion Mean Melin, who apparently knows everybody in town and can make things happen. But everyone really jumped in and did all they could, from arranging events to housing out-of-towners to setting up a livestream of the finals (which you can watch here).

But let's start at the beginning: Thursday night in Kansas City, the US Air Guitar Dark Horse competition went down, with the largest number of competitors in history - 31! We took over Missie B's, Kansas City's premier gay club, and I do say "we"... I got a last-minute invitation while sitting in a barbecue restaurant earlier that day. So that was a little nuts. In fact the entire evening was a little nuts. Nuts were perhaps the only foodstuff that didn't end up all over the stage. I'm getting ahead of myself.

And the last semifinal in question was the Southeast one, in DC, which is apparently always totally mindblowing.
