Remember how last year there was some grassroots support, including my own, for having US Air Guitar Nationals in Kansas City, and then it actually happened? Well, now it's time for me to turn that same high-powered spotlight (ha!) on the town I actually live in, Boston!

I'm not sure I'm fully recovered. Boston's US Air Guitar Qualifier took place on Saturday, and the evening was a great success. Sure, there were only 9 competitors (including walk-ons), and that was a bit of a concern, but it all went off successfully. Let's talk about it!

Last-minute reminder - tonight at TT the Bear's in Central Square, it all goes down! Air guitarists should get there at 4, doors are at 5.

Well, the Bruins just got eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I know it's sad. I am a big hockey fan and while I do live in Boston, my hometown team will always have my heart - and they have a long and proud history of tanking it in the playoffs. So even if the Bruins weren't my #2 team and I wasn't bummed about the loss on its own merits, I would still fully understand the feeling around town today. You're sad about the loss, and more, you're at a loss now that your favorite sport has been pulled out from under you. Sure, you might keep following the rest of the playoffs, but it's just not as good. Right?

It's starting! The 2014 US Air Guitar season is officially underway (having begun on May 1 with the Brooklyn Qualifier, in fact), and that the Boston Qualifier is in less than TWO WEEKS! While we've announced the bare bones facts of the qualifier (where, when, and how to sign up), this post will give you all of the details as we know them so far.

Prepare your bodies and your minds (and your livers)... the 2014 US Air Guitar Boston Qualifier will take place on Saturday, May 24th, 2014, at TT the Bear's, at 5pm. That's right: this is an early show! Which just leaves more time for celebrating afterwards.

Ok, I know I haven't posted anything in ages even when I said I would - mea culpa - I've just been so busy with my job telling other people to blog more. But this is something you need to know about: legendary LA air guitarist 6-String General is going to be coming to Boston on Nov. 20th! And he's not just coming for a visit. He's going to be opening up for a captivating young lady named Ali Spagnola, whose entire raison d'etre is singing one-minute-long songs about beer! And/or drinking in general. And he is a General. So there you go: perfect synergy.

The 2013 US Air Guitar Boston Qualifier was Friday night, and your faithful correspondent was there, not only cheering and live-tweeting and taking admittedly lousy cameraphone pictures, but also competing for the first time ever! Here's how it all went down...
